Question  1: What is the best way to store Powerbond?

Answer : Keep the bottle upright with the top on and out of direct sunlight. For enhanced shelf life keep the bottle refrigerated.

Keep the bottle upright with the top on and out of direct sunlight. For enhanced shelf life keep the bottle refrigerated.

Question 2: Do I have to keep Powerbond refrigerated?

Answer: No; the shelf life of the product is considerably enhanced by storing it in a cool environment but refrigeration is not necessary.

Question 3: I have had problems with glues clogging up in the past and becoming unusable, how can I avoid this?

Answer: Tap the bottom of the container firmly on a hard surface a few times when you have finished using Powerbond. This action clears the spout of any unused glue and keeps the channel clear for the next time you use it. If any glue has run down the outside of the nozzle then simply wipe it off with a piece of scrap paper using a twisting action.

Each bottle of Powerbond has an integrated pin within the cap whose purpose is to keep the applicator tip free of contaminants and facilitate the free movement of the product from the container to its intended point of application. Screw the cap down firmly having made sure that the bottle is clear of spills and runs and you will find this gives you the best results.

Question 4: How long will Powerbond keep?

Answer: We guarantee Powerbond for two years from date of purchase providing it is kept upright, out of direct sunlight and with the cap on. Storing it as directed will extend its shelf life significantly and we have been told by customers that they were re-ordering bottles that had served them well for seven or more years.

Question 5: Is it possible to bond different surfaces such as metal to glass using Powerbond?

Answer: Yes it is, as long as there is a contact point that is free of grease or dust or anything that might impair an effective bond developing, it is possible to bond virtually any surfaces together.

Question 6: What will it not bond?

Answer: There is a category of plastics called the polyolefins, known commonly as polythene or polypropylene that are not receptive to bonding other than by heating and actually welding the surfaces together. The reason for this is that they have an extremely high oil content that makes the products very changeable at the molecular level. So while you may effect a temporary bond and we have heard anecdotally of these surfaces being bonded effectively with Powerbond we would not recommend Powerbond for these materials.

We would also advise proceeding with caution on delicate fabrics such as silk, linen or cotton that have a tendency to absorb the product rather like a sponge before an effective or manageable bond can be achieved.

Question 7: Is Powerbond only suitable for indoor use?

Answer: No; Powerbond is completely waterproof and heat resistant. Being frostproof and steamproof means that it can be used all around the home and workplace, both inside and out.

Question 8: Just how strong is Powerbond?

Answer:  When it is fully cured Powerbond has a tensile strength of 3000lbs per square inch or 35 Newtons.

Question 9: Is it toxic?

Answer: No; Powerbond is non-toxic and completely solvent free. This means that you can use Powerbond with confidence on items used in food preparation, or items used by children and animals.

Question 10: What would happen if I got it on my skin?

Answer: Powerbond is extremely powerful and we advise that you proceed with care and safety in mind. We recommend using latex gloves when working with Powerbond to prevent contact with skin. However if a spill has occurred then follow these simple steps.

The place most likely to come into contact with Powerbond, for obvious reasons, is your fingers. If you got it on your fingers simply rub them together in small circular motions, this renders the adhesive harmless and the resultant film can either be peeled off or washed off with warm soapy water. If you were to hold your fingers together and press for a few seconds then, yes, they would bond; this is nothing to be unduly concerned about however. Powerbond is supplied with a high performance Debonder, a glue remover, which can be used to free bonded fingers or unbond badly bonded items.

Question 11: What about quality?

Answer: All manufacturing and packaging of Powerbond is carried out under ISO 9001quality control systems. This ensures that the reliability of adhesive, amount of fill, label registration, etc. are of the highest standard. Quite simply there is no finer product available anywhere to anyone.

Question 12: Will Powerbond work on porous surfaces such as wood?

Answer: Yes it will. Surfaces such as wood, terracotta, unglazed ceramic, concrete, alabaster and other porous surfaces are absorbent by nature, so moisten them prior to applying Powerbond which gives a better key for the adhesive to develop a stronger bond on.

Question 13: Do I get any kind of customer support with Powerbond?

Answer: Once you have used Powerbond we believe you will not want to use an inferior product ever again. This belief is supported by a strategy of interactive customer liason. At the first level there is the instruction leaflet that is supplied with the adhesive and debonder. Then there is this - the Powerbond website which offers comprehensive technical data and up-to-date information about the product. Then there is the designated customer helpline whose number appears on each bottle.

There is no reason to feel that you have purchased a product from people who do not care, we take pride in the fact that Powerbond is internationally certified and recognised for its quality. We believe that given the choice, naturally, everyone wants the best that is available.

Question 14: Do I have to add anything to Powerbond to make it work?

Answer: No; Powerbond is known technically as a monocomponent system. That means it works alone and doesn't rely upon a catalyst, a hardener or a quickening agent to become effective. This makes the product simpler to use and also eliminates the waste that is associated with adhesives that need to be mixed to prime them for use.
